    • I'm currently working on the framing plans for my tiny house on a 16' trailer. It's based on a number of different designs, with a focus on an open floor plan. I'm designing the framing with standard 8' walls, and attempting to keep as close to code as possible.

Are pocket windows a feasible idea? By pocket windows I mean windows that fit within the stud spacing (16'oc). I would like

    • It seems to me that most tiny houses have fairly steep roof pitches, many as steep as 12/12.Is there some subtle reason for this?I know that some materials (shingles) aren't waterproof, so they need a good grade to get the water off the roof quickly. But if I have a metal roof, is there any reason I can't make a much flatter roof, say 4/12?The only obvious drawback I see would be losin…

I would love to do it for several reasons. The two sides of the coin are being more eco friendly with a smaller footprint and impact on the environment, and a reduction in the cost of living on the other. In between are other benefits, lik…

    • Hello everyone. Has anyone built a tiny basement with their tiny house? I am currently building a Tumbleweed Weller and am building a basement beneath it.A little background. I constructed the frame in my mom's building from wood that my banker(!) gave me, so I got off to a good start! Despite having to reduce the lumber to dimension everything has gone smoothly. So, everything is built except…

    • Well, here it is... My first draft floor plan. It's for a home on wheels, 8'4" wide X 36' long (not including trailer tongue), with 2x4 walls. The wall between the kitchen and bathroom is 2x6 to accommodate the double pocket door, and as a beefy support for the sleeping loft (which will be above the bathroom & is not shown). I did this on Floorplans.com.Here's a little legend…

The panels are 2'x8'.My question is, could we use this particle board as sheathing instead of plywoo…

Paper and pencil are still great tools to use, but if you are spending any amount of time at your computer you can put the site to good use. I highly recommend you give it a try. If you post any of your …

I have found a trailer I can get right away and start getting build materials, kind of a buy a little at a time gig. And is framing in 2-by-2s worth the hassle? In modern homes, plywood is an integral part of what home builders call the 'wall system', the glue - no pun intended - that holds most modern houses together. And across the interwebs, framing in two-by-two material is also touted as a way to save weight.T…
